It has been 3 months since I planted the garden and we are having great harvests so far. These are from the 6 tomato plants from the cinderblock garden (the oaxacan jewels are from the wood garden). The wood garden bed is a few weeks behind so I expect those to start ripening soon and [...]
I decided to leave some of the mangos on the Lancetilla tree to see if/when they drop. I thinned about 4-5 off this branch and am surprised to see that so far, the tree has not dropped any of the mangos. I wonder how large they will get.
A quick melon update.
Here is my charentais in the cinderblock garden. This one is now the size of a softball so I do not expect it to get much larger. I have 2 melons on this plant and hopefully they will ripen soon.
These Arava melons are also in my cinderblock [...]
Here is the 3 month garden update.
Cinderblock garden: Is really taking off. The tomato plants are over 6 feet tall and producing really well. All of the plants have ripe tomatoes!!
Here are the cherry tomatoes (Sungold, Sun Sugar, Sugar Snack). We are picking a bunch everyday…more than we can eat. [...]
This is my Misty Blueberry. It has an earlier season than the sunshine which is perfect because now I will have an extended blueberry season. If these last the winter I think I will add more blueberries to extend the season even longer. I picked some more blueberries and they are really starting to sweeten [...]
Well I posted about 2 weeks ago about something biting into my unripe peaches so we had to move the tree (luckily it was still potted) and my Mother-in-law bought some tulle to protect it. so far, so good…we have only lost 1 more peach. They are delicious.
Just a little life update…our son was born last week. We are just so in love with our little guy. So far he is an easy and mellow baby and I take walks with him to see the garden once or twice a day.
While we were in the hospital, the garden took off.
Our [...]
It is petty easy to differentiate betwee the male and female blossoms if you know what to look for. This is a picture of a female lemon cucumber blossom. You can see what looks like a baby lemon cucumber on the end of the blosson (the green part of blossom). The male flower does not [...]
Look how fast the orange honeydews are growing. I have 3 melons that are bigger than grapefruit size. There are some smaller melons that look like they have fruitset but we’ll see if they survive this heatwave we are having.
Here are some tomatoes I picked the other mornng. They are Stupice, Sungold, Sun Sugar, and Sugar Snack. The cherry tomatoes are really starting to ripen and we are picking them everyday.
This is a ripe sun sugar from the wood garden bed. This is the first ripe tomato from this garden bed. [...]
It has been 1 week since I posted that I found some small little melons on the vine. Here is the last melon post for reference.

I cannot believe how quickly these melons grow. Every day you can see tremendous growth.
Here is the honey orange. It can barely fit in my [...]
so I posted below about my son picking a green tomato off of my marvel striped plant. I was so disappointed because I could tell it was going to be one of the first beefsteaks to ripen.
Well, you know what they say about when life gives you lemons…make Lemonade.
I decided to make fried [...]
The Stupice set fruit at the end of May and grew to about golfball size. They have not grown much bigger and have just been sitting on the vine not doing anything. It has been very frustrating as these are supposed to be very early tomatoes.
Well I guess all my kvetching paid [...]
I was waiting for one of my bigger tomatos on the marvel striped to start ripening. It has turned from a darker green to lighter green color and I knew it was just a few days from blushing….unfortunately, what could have potentially been my first slicer tomato got pucked off the vine by my overeager [...]
So a few days ago I found the hornworm below on my sungold in my cinderblock bed.
Today when my husband and I were chilling, he saw a leaf on my marvel striped that had some holes on it. When he flipped it over, there was a baby hornworm. Another indication of the presence of [...]
The Cherry Tomatoes are all ripe and have been for the last week or so. We have probably had about 15 ripe cherries so far but have had friends and family over so they did not last long on the vine.
I have not yet done a side by side tasting of the sungold, sunsugar, [...]
Our babcock peaches are almost ready. We are so excited. This tree is still in a pot because I have not decided where to plant it. The other day we saw a squirrel on the fence headed towards our peach tree and we were all oohing over how cute it was.
[...]
Here’s a picture of a lemon cucumber. They can get more yellow but by then the seeds are too big and the flavor is not as good. We had a friend over for dinner and added this to our salad and it was delicious….crispy and sweet.
Hurray! We picked our first blueberry today. We put in 4 blueberry bushes in early May, 2 are Misty Blueberries and 2 are Sunshine Blueberries. We wanted 2 different types of blueberries to help with pollination and also because they ripen at different times so we wanted an extended season of having ripe berries.
When [...]
