The summer gardening season definitely started out slow. It took forever for the tomato, pepper, and melon plants to get going. All my watermelon died this year but i will give them another go next year.

I can’t believe we are still picking ripe tomatoes in November. Granted, they are not as sweet as they were in their peak but they are still quite yummy. I think next week I will pick the last of the green tomatoes and make fried green tomatoes with them. Yummy!!
I have started to neglect my garden as well as my blog. Having 2 boys under the age of 2 will do that to you. I barely have time to harvest everything and have not canned, dried, frozen anything for this winter .

I really don’t get sick of taking pictures of my harvest. I am like a proud mother hen. I just think that vegetables out of the garden are so beautiful and colorful. Look at the neat, fused marvel striped near the center. The other ones near it look like perfect little pumpkins.

My Black Krim has been producing these big tomatoes. Some of them are quite interesting looking. I think they are beautiful in their own right, or as the French say “belle-laide” or “ugly beautiful”.
Made this delicious salmon nicoise salad for the family on wednesday. It is a great way to showcase your harvest.

It has been 3 months since I planted the garden and we are having great harvests so far. These are from the 6 tomato plants from the cinderblock garden (the oaxacan jewels are from the wood garden). The wood garden bed is a few weeks behind so I expect those to start ripening soon and [...]
Here is the 3 month garden update.
Cinderblock garden: Is really taking off. The tomato plants are over 6 feet tall and producing really well. All of the plants have ripe tomatoes!!

It is petty easy to differentiate betwee the male and female blossoms if you know what to look for. This is a picture of a female lemon cucumber blossom. You can see what looks like a baby lemon cucumber on the end of the blosson (the green part of blossom). The male flower does not [...]
Here are some tomatoes I picked the other mornng. They are Stupice, Sungold, Sun Sugar, and Sugar Snack. The cherry tomatoes are really starting to ripen and we are picking them everyday.
This is a ripe sun sugar from the wood garden bed. This is the first ripe tomato from this garden bed. [...]
The Stupice set fruit at the end of May and grew to about golfball size. They have not grown much bigger and have just been sitting on the vine not doing anything. It has been very frustrating as these are supposed to be very early tomatoes.

The Cherry Tomatoes are all ripe and have been for the last week or so. We have probably had about 15 ripe cherries so far but have had friends and family over so they did not last long on the vine.

We never got around to building a trellis for our lemon cucumber. We have been so busy with parties, family and friend visits that we kept on putting the task off. Of course we had a wicked heatspell (over 100 degrees) that caused our lemon cucmber to grow at a freakish rate.
